The German Studies Association is the multi- and interdisciplinary association of scholars in German, Austrian, and Swiss history, literature, culture studies, political science, and economics. GSA holds an annual Conference and publishes a scholarly journal - German Studies Review - as well as a Newsletter. Members are generally professors at universities in colleges in North America, although there are several hundred members in Europe and Asia. Membership is open to anyone interested in German studies. GSA is a member of the American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS).
GSA is a non-profit educational organization which promotes research and study of Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. The GSA Endowment Fund provides financial support to Association projects, the annual conference, and general operations. Gifts and donations to GSA are tax deductible contributions in the United States and many other countries. The Conference of the Association is held in the Fall, generally between mid-September and mid-October. About 150 sessions, each with three scholarly papers, a moderator, and a commentator, are distributed among the main research areas of the Association. Papers may be offered in English or German. German Studies Review is published three times each year, in February, May, and October. An issue generally contains six articles and 60 book reviews. Articles and book reviews in history, literature, culture studies, political science, as well as interdisciplinary themes, are published in English or German. The Newsletter is published twice each year. Each issue is about fifty pages, and contains information about the profession, grants, computer use in German Studies research and teaching, archival reports, and information about conferences and events as well as news of importance to the membership. Guidelines for curricula in German Studies are offered by GSA for assistance to universities, colleges, and high schools in planning programs in German Studies. |

Some people have profiles without their teaching institutions. This means that their names will be printed in the Conference Program WITHOUT their institution. Each of you wants the institution next to your name.
Do it NOW! Please! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Don't Do It! Don't! Don't! Don't renew your membership or join at the same time as you register for the Conference! You may send your dues to the wrong bank!! Do you want to do both? Go to the membership area and transact that business first. Then, close your browser and have a cup of coffee. Then, come back and open the browser again and go to the Conference section and transact that business. You will be safe! ____________________________________________ 2005 Conference Registration and Hotel Reservation Online NOW! Late Registration Surcharge Begins August 25! If you are not a member and you want to change your listing, you can do that yourself. Do not create a second profile! It may disappear, and with it, your hotel room. If necessary, update the existing one. Ghost profiles disappear easily. We have placed a demonstration of the registration process on our site. When you go to the registration page, look for the yellow box on the right. Click on demo, and you will be taken through a demonstration of the registration process. It is easy. However, the demo may not work on dial-up connections that are very slow. Book your hotel room now, to ensure that you get a room in our Conference Hotel. The sooner, the better, in case we sell out and need to take additional rooms at another hotel nearby. Don't forget. You must register for the conference in order to book at the conference hotel.
No, you cannot pay membership dues while in the conference registration part of the site. You must finish the whole registration and hotel reservation process, go through to the very end, and then exit conference registration and enter the membership part of the site. You can edit your profile in either part of the site, but you cannot pay dues while in the conference part of the site. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PAY DUES ONLINE NOW You can now pay your dues online. Use the "Quick Clicks" shortcut on the right side of this page. Please be certain to update your member profile, so that we have your current address, e-mail address, and credit card information. You can even enter the credit card number for automatic dues payment in the future. Your member profile is your key to GSA activity. You will also need it to register for the 2005 Conference in Milwaukee. Remember, do not create a second profile. In data bases, they crash, and compete with one another. Data can be lost. If you have a problem, don't create a new membership file. Write the Help Desk instead.
