Welcome to the GSA Conference Registration and Hotel Reservation pages for the Twenty-Seventh Annual Conference in 2003, from September 18-21 in New Orleans. Here, you will be able to register for the conference and reserve a hotel room at our conference hotel (as long as our room block holds out - therefore, you should register early). At the German Studies Association, you MUST register for the conference FIRST, before you can reserve a hotel room.

Conference Registration: This site will guide you through our Conference Registration and Hotel Reservation process. It is easy to use, as well as safe, and secure. Your information will be processed automatically. If you use the electronic site, DO NOT send in paper materials as well. You may be double-charged. Just follow this simple procedure, and you will be registered automatically. In order to use our automatic system, you will need to have an up-to-date web browser. This means Explorer 5.0 or higher or Netscape 5.0 or higher. If you do not have this updated browser, it is offered free from the supplier. Just click on the link here, and your browser will be updated for you automatically. What could be simpler? Please fill out the registration form completely, and click on the “proceed to checkout” button. That will charge your Visa or MasterCard right away, automatically. Do you want a receipt? You will get a receipt by e-mail right away.

IF you would like to change your Conference Registration, you can come back to this web site later, and use your e-mail address and password to re-enter the form page. You can then change your Conference Registration to change your name, address, meal ticket orders, etc, up to 14 days before the Conference. You can, however, only ADD. You cannot cancel the registration or cancel a meal order on line. For this, you must write GSA. Refund guidelines are indicated in the General Conference Information section of this web site and the Newsletter. Remember, there are penalties for refunds, because GSA has fees to pay for refunds.

Diacritical Marks: You write your name with umlauts, or your university is a German one and you want them on your Registration Badge? Of course, you can type them in here. We prefer that umlauts be used for person's names, universities, such as using "Universität Heidelberg," and so on. If you are using an international or German keyboard, you can type them right in, just as you type them normally every day. If you see them here on the screen, you will have them on your badge.

If you do not know how to put in accents or umlauts on your computer, we have a chart for you here that will enable you to put them in. Just type as far as the letter you want to insert, click on the "Special Character" words on the brown heading, and the chart will appear. Select your umlaut or accent, or whatever you need, and paste it into your form using copy and paste. You will see it there, and can go on.

HOTEL RESERVATIONS: Access to the Hotel Reservations is available only to those who have Registered for upcoming conferences. You do not have to be GSA Member, but you do have to be a fully registered for the Conference. On the hotel form, you have the option of also using American Express or Diner’s Club. Also, you will not be charged immediately, unless that is hotel policy. Do understand that this form does NOT guarantee you a room. It only allows us to submit a reservation on your behalf. The hotel will contact you with confirmation if it has a room for you. If you have not heard from the hotel in a reasonable time, call them and ask if they have received your form and you have a reservation. If there is any problem, send an e-mail to us at thegsa@yahoo.com and we will look into the matter for you and respond. Do not telephone our office. It will only delay your request. Send an e-mail.

GSA does not cancel or change hotel reservations once they are made. The hotel will send you a confirmation. Once you have received the confirmation, you should call or fax the hotel directly to change or cancel your reservation. GSA only MAKES the reservation on your behalf. You must change or cancel it directly with the hotel. If you do not receive a confirmation, you should also call the hotel, NOT GSA.

NEW MEMBERSHIP: Once you have registered for the GSA Conference, we hope that you will decide to become a member of the Association. You can join GSA by printing out a form from this web site and sending it in. Although you don't have to be a GSA member to register for the Conferences, we certainly encourage you to do so.
